Ikeja Electric Plc, one of Nigeria’s major electricity distribution companies, has announced that it has begun refunding customers who purchased meters under its Meter Asset Provider (MAP) programme. The refunds are being issued as credits applied to customers’ future vending transactions.

The MAP programme allowed customers to buy prepaid electricity meters directly, with the expectation that the cost would be recovered through subsequent electricity purchases. Ikeja Electric says that the refunds will be reflected automatically on the next top‑up or vending of credit to the affected meters.

According to the company, the credit will be added to the customer’s account balance, reducing the amount they need to pay for electricity in the next transaction. Customers are advised to monitor their vending receipts or online account statements to confirm that the credit has been applied.

Nigeria’s power sector has long relied on prepaid metering to improve revenue collection and reduce billing disputes. The rollout of the MAP scheme was part of broader efforts to expand access to reliable electricity across Lagos State, where Ikeja Electric operates.

Customers who believe they are eligible for the refund but do not see the credit applied are encouraged to contact Ikeja Electric’s customer service centre for assistance.
