A grand jury in Mississippi concluded that the death of 17‑year‑old Nolan Wells was consistent with drowning, and it chose not to file any criminal charges.
Wells was found dead on Horn Island after he and friends had taken a boat out to celebrate Independence Day. The investigation did not uncover any evidence that would support criminal conduct in the incident.
According to the grand jury’s findings, no indictments were warranted, and the case will not proceed to a criminal trial.
“The cause of death is consistent with drowning,” the grand jury said.
