The Jigawa State House of Assembly approved a supplementary budget of 46.3 billion naira for 2026 during a Wednesday session, passing the 2026 Budget Review and Proposed Supplementary Appropriation Bill at its first reading.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin announced the move after reading a communication from Governor Umar Namadi, who had requested legislative consideration of the proposed supplementary budget. The governor’s letter framed the 46.3 billion naira addition as part of the administration’s commitment to prudence, accountability and transparency in the management of the state’s financial resources.
According to the Speaker, the review is intended to ensure that available resources are channeled toward programmes and projects that can make significant contributions to the socio‑economic development and wellbeing of Jigawa’s residents.
Following the communication, Majority Leader Lawan Muhammad Dansure moved a motion for the bill to be read for the first time, which was seconded by the member for Kiyawa Constituency, Yahaya Muhammad Andaza. The bill was formally read, and the House adjourned its sitting to Thursday, 24 September 2026.
The supplementary appropriation follows the Jigawa State Executive Council’s approval of a review of the 2026 Appropriation Law, which increased the state’s total budget size by 46.369 billion naira. If enacted, the review will lift Jigawa’s 2026 budget from the original 901.8 billion naira to roughly 948.2 billion naira.
