Thirty‑seven suspected illegal miners have been confirmed dead while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State, according to a list released by the agency.
The NSCDC announced that it has arrested and paraded 24 of its personnel, including the Niger State Commandant, Commandant Subaru Siyaka Aniviye, in connection with the miners’ deaths.

Four of the names – Mu’awiya AbdulKarim, Abdul Gafar Abubakar, Usman Haruna and Aro Salihu Soba – were noted as not being part of the general hospital list released alongside the others.
