The League of Imams and Alfas in Yoruba Land has issued a public warning against the use of counterfeit Islamic titles, urging Muslims and the wider community to verify the authenticity of such designations.
In a statement released this week, the league said that the proliferation of fake titles undermines the credibility of religious scholars and can mislead worshippers seeking legitimate guidance.
To address the issue, the league published a list of recognised past and present holders of authentic Islamic titles. Among the names cited were the late businessman and philanthropist MKO Abiola, as well as respected scholars Arisekola and Ishola.
