Como defeated French side Lens 9-1 on Tuesday, matching the record for the biggest winning margin ever recorded in UEFA Champions League history. The eight‑goal difference places the Italian club alongside Liverpool and Real Madrid, the only other teams to have achieved such a dominant victory in the competition.
The match, played as part of the Champions League group stage, saw Como score nine goals while conceding only one, delivering a thrashing that eclipsed most results in the tournament’s modern era.
Both Liverpool and Real Madrid previously set the benchmark with eight‑goal winning margins in earlier editions of the Champions League, a record that has now been equaled but not surpassed by Como’s performance.
The UEFA Champions League is Europe’s premier club competition, featuring the continent’s top teams. Victories by such a wide margin are exceptionally rare, underscoring the significance of Como’s achievement.
By joining Liverpool and Real Madrid in this exclusive record book, Como has cemented its place in Champions League history, highlighting the club’s attacking potency and the competitive disparity that can arise in the group phase.
