Ardova Plc, through a consortium of investors, has acquired Powergas, a Nigerian compressed natural gas (CNG) provider, in a move that will expand its CNG business and accelerate the deployment of cleaner fuel infrastructure across the country.
The deal gives the consortium control of Powergas’ existing fleet of CNG refuelling stations and its supply chain, positioning it to roll out 100 new refuelling sites within the next 24 months. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to increase the availability of CNG as a cleaner alternative to diesel and petrol in Nigeria’s growing transportation sector.
Strategic Growth for CNG Infrastructure
Under the agreement, the consortium will invest in new refuelling sites and upgrade existing facilities to meet safety and quality standards. The plan includes the installation of modern dispensing equipment and the development of a nationwide network that will support both commercial and private vehicle operators.
With Nigeria’s large and expanding vehicle fleet, the move is expected to reduce greenhouse‑gas emissions and improve air quality in urban areas. By expanding CNG infrastructure, the consortium aims to make the fuel more accessible and affordable for consumers, supporting the country’s shift toward cleaner energy sources.
