In a public engagement in Calabar, the Commissioner of Police for Cross River State, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, called for a coordinated strategy to fight illicit drugs across the state.
Ordue said the approach must combine intelligence‑led operations, preventive interventions, public enlightenment, community engagement and effective enforcement. He stressed that the Police Command is ready to support the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in disrupting criminal networks and protecting vulnerable members of the public from the consequences of drug abuse.
The commissioner highlighted the need for sustained inter‑agency collaboration to tackle not only drug trafficking and drug‑related crimes but also cultism, general trafficking and other criminal activities that threaten public safety.
He reiterated the Police Command’s commitment to deepening strategic partnerships with relevant agencies to safeguard lives and property, maintain public safety and create a secure environment for residents, visitors and businesses across Cross River State.
Ordue urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information, noting that “security is everybody’s business.”
Welcoming the call for cooperation, NDLEA State Commander CN Anteyi John said his agency was thrilled by the collaboration and looked forward to working closely with the police.
