The Nigerian Law Society has awarded the prestigious rank of Senior Counsel to four distinguished legal practitioners, including former Attorney General Femi Fani‑Kayode and former Minister of State for Finance Seyi Tinubu.
In a ceremony that underscored the Society’s commitment to recognising excellence in the legal profession, the four recipients were formally elevated to the Senior Counsel rank. The award is one of the highest honours a lawyer can receive in Nigeria, signifying a record of professional achievement, integrity and contribution to the rule of law.
Fani‑Kayode, known for his long career in public service and his work as a former Minister of Justice, joined Tinubu, who has served in various ministerial roles, among the cohort of four newly appointed Senior Counsels.
While the identities of the other two recipients were not disclosed in the brief announcement, the Society confirmed that all five individuals had met the rigorous criteria required for the title, which includes a minimum of ten years of practice and a demonstrated record of ethical conduct.
The conferment of Senior Counsel status is intended to encourage continued professional development and to highlight the role of seasoned lawyers in mentoring junior colleagues and shaping the legal landscape in Nigeria.
