Armed fighters from Ethiopia’s Fano movement said they have seized military trucks and weapons in the country’s Amhara region, according to statements released by the group.
Fano, a loosely organized militia that draws support from Amhara nationalist elements, has been active in clashes with federal forces and other armed groups since the escalation of Ethiopia’s internal conflict in 2020.
The Amhara region, located in northern Ethiopia, is one of the nation’s most populous areas and has been a focal point of recent fighting between regional militias and the Ethiopian National Defense Force.
The claim of captured equipment has not been independently verified by third‑party observers, and Ethiopian authorities have not issued an official comment on the incident.
The report comes amid ongoing tensions in Ethiopia, where disputes over political power, ethnic representation and control of territory continue to fuel sporadic violence across several regions.
