Ethiopia’s government forces launched a drone strike on Eritrean troops that had crossed into the Tigray region, a move that could heighten the risk of a wider regional conflict.

According to civilian witnesses, a militia commander and the conflict‑monitoring group ACLED, Eritrean military vehicles entered Ethiopia’s southern border and reached the town of Adigrat, 25 miles south of the border, on Wednesday.

The drone attack was carried out by Ethiopian government forces against the Eritrean contingent that had crossed the border, the reports say.

Officials say the incident raises the danger that a renewed internal conflict in Ethiopia could spill over into an all‑out war between the neighbouring countries.

The Tigray region has long been a flashpoint in the Horn of Africa, and the latest escalation has drawn attention from observers who warn that further hostilities could destabilise the wider area.
