Essex County Cricket Club’s Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape and is scheduled to appear in court in October, according to a statement released by the Crown Prosecution Service.
The charges relate to alleged offences that are separate from Das’s cricketing activities. As with any criminal case, Das is presumed innocent until proven guilty and will be afforded the full due‑process rights of the legal system.
Essex, one of England’s 18 first‑class county cricket teams, competes in the County Championship, the One‑Day Cup and the T20 Blast. The club has not issued a detailed comment beyond a standard statement that it will cooperate with the authorities and that any disciplinary matters will be handled in accordance with its policies.
Das’s court appearance in October will determine the next steps in the legal process, including whether the case proceeds to trial. Neither Das nor his legal representatives have made public statements on the matter at this stage.
