The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its Enugu State governorship candidate, Uche Nnaji, has selected Chijioke Ugwu as his running mate for the 2027 election.
In a statement issued by Nnaji’s media team, the candidate said the choice was part of a broader strategy to bring a new generation of leaders into Enugu’s political arena. “We want fresh faces to emerge in the leadership configuration of Enugu State,” Nnaji said.
Ugwu, an entrepreneur and philanthropist from Nguru in Nsukka Local Government Area, is expected to bring private‑sector experience to the PDP ticket. Born in 1977, he attended Community Primary School, Nguru, and St Teresa’s College, Nsukka, before earning a degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
After completing his National Youth Service, Ugwu entered the logistics industry, founding Windemol Maritime and Logistics Limited, a freight forwarding company. He later established Sokabell Nigeria Limited, which operates in contracting and consultancy, and Magik Stars Hospitality Nigeria Limited, with interests in tourism and hospitality. The statement said his businesses have created employment opportunities for graduates and helped young people acquire professional skills.
“He did not wait for government to give him a livelihood. He built businesses, created jobs and opened doors for others,” Nnaji said.
Ugwu is also a director and co‑founder of the Felistas Foundation, created with his siblings in memory of their late mother. The foundation has donated exercise books to primary school pupils in Nkpunano Ward and provided scholarships and financial assistance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. In recognition of his community contributions, the traditional ruler of Nguru, Igwe Linus Nosike Obayi, conferred on him the chieftaincy title of Eweluchi Bube Uzo I of Nguru Nsukka.
Ugwu is married to Mrs. Chinonye Ugwu, and the couple has four children.
