The U.S. Energy Department has announced a nearly $2 billion investment aimed at extracting more electricity from the nation’s aging power grid.
The funding will support 31 projects spread across 26 states, each designed to boost the grid’s capacity.
Combined, the projects are expected to add more than 23 gigawatts of additional electricity capacity.
That extra capacity could power 16 million homes, according to the Department’s estimates.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise the grid and improve its reliability for consumers nationwide.
