Interim Super Falcons coach Augustine Eguavoen said the Nigerian women’s football team will turn its focus toward winning gold at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles after a disappointing showing at the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national side and the most decorated team in African women’s football, fell short of expectations at the tournament, prompting a reassessment of their short‑term goals.

Eguavoen, who was appointed on an interim basis, stressed that the team must channel the frustration from the WAFCON outcome into a long‑term plan aimed at Olympic success. He highlighted the importance of building a cohesive squad and maintaining high training standards in the lead‑up to 2028.

While no specific timetable was announced, the coach indicated that upcoming regional and international fixtures will serve as stepping stones toward the Olympic target, giving players the chance to gain experience and improve performance.

By setting the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as a clear objective, Eguavoen hopes to inspire both the players and the nation’s supporters to rally behind the Super Falcons as they work toward reclaiming continental dominance and achieving their first Olympic gold medal.
