The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the formation of a dedicated investigative team to probe former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Finance Mohammed Malami and other individuals named in the International Court of Justice (ICC) ruling on the Mambilla deal.
The move comes after a review by Premium Times of the tribunal’s award, which highlighted a number of Nigerian politicians and public office holders who were identified as associates or officials involved in dealings with Mr Adesanya.
Premium Times’ analysis found that many of the named individuals held public positions and were linked to the project through official or associate capacities.
In a statement, the EFCC said it would examine the allegations raised in the ICC ruling and determine whether any breaches of law or corruption have occurred.
The Mambilla deal, a major infrastructure project, has been the subject of scrutiny and legal review, prompting the commission’s renewed focus on the individuals implicated in the tribunal’s findings.
