The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remains active, with the death toll reaching 3,779, according to the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
While the epidemic continues, significant progress has been made in containing the spread of the virus across the affected regions. The Africa CDC reported that eight health zones have entered the sustained controlled phase, indicating a prolonged period of stability in those areas.
Additionally, six other health zones have transitioned into the controlled phase. These zones have achieved this status by reporting no new cases for specified periods while undergoing routine monitoring protocols.
The distinction between the "controlled" and "sustained controlled" phases reflects the ongoing efforts to monitor and suppress transmission, ensuring that the outbreak does not reignite in previously affected communities.
As the DRC continues to manage the crisis, health authorities are maintaining vigilance to ensure that the progress made in these 14 health zones is preserved while addressing remaining hotspots.
