The World Health Organization has confirmed that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has expanded to two additional health zones, South Ubangi and Haut‑Uele, in the country’s eastern border region.
Health workers in the affected areas are reporting a surge in cases and are struggling to cope with the increased demand for medical supplies, personal protective equipment and trained personnel.
According to WHO officials, the new cases bring the total number of health zones under active surveillance to 12, up from 10 before the latest reports.
