The Crude Oil Refinery-Owners Association of Nigeria (CORONA) has called on the Federal Government to stop importing petroleum products and to focus on expanding the country’s domestic refining capacity.
In a statement released today, CORONA urged authorities to prioritise investment in Nigeria’s refineries, arguing that a stronger domestic refining sector would reduce the nation’s dependence on imported fuels.
“Maximising our domestic refining capacity is essential for energy security and for supporting local industry,” the association said, highlighting the need for greater support from the government to upgrade existing facilities and build new ones.
With Nigeria being one of Africa’s largest oil producers, the association’s appeal underscores a broader push to keep more of the country’s oil value chain within its borders.
