Crude oil imports at Lagos ports fell sharply in September 2026, dropping 38.6 percent from the previous month. The total volume imported during the month was 1,470,109 metric tonnes, compared with 2,392,354 metric tonnes in August.
The figures, released by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Tuesday, cover the first 22 days of September; the remaining eight days could alter the final tally. The data also excludes imports through the Lekki Deep Sea Port, meaning the overall national crude oil import figure for the month is higher.
During the period under review, petroleum products and other commodities dominated the import mix. Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) led the way with 526,500 metric tonnes, followed by Aviation Turbine Fuel (JET A1) at 167,000 metric tonnes and Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) at 82,500 metric tonnes.
In addition to fuels, bulk wheat imports reached 173,483 metric tonnes, illustrating the range of commodities handled by Lagos ports.
These numbers highlight the fluctuating import volumes across key petroleum products and other major commodities, underscoring the importance of Lagos as a central hub for Nigeria’s energy and trade flows.
