Continental Reinsurance has launched a public offering worth $156.1 million, aiming to become the first reinsurer to list on the Botswana Stock Exchange. The move marks a significant step for the company as it seeks to broaden its investor base and strengthen its presence in the African market.
The offering is being priced to attract both local and international investors, with the proceeds expected to support Continental Re's growth initiatives and enhance its capital base. By listing on Botswana’s exchange, the insurer hopes to tap into a region that is increasingly attracting financial services investment.
Botswana’s Stock Exchange, based in Gaborone, has historically been dominated by banks, mining companies and utilities. Continental Re's bid to list would diversify the exchange’s portfolio and bring a new type of financial service to its market.
Continental Reinsurance, a global reinsurer with operations in several African countries, has previously listed on other exchanges but has not yet had a presence on the Botswana market. The company’s decision to go public there reflects its strategy to deepen ties with the Southern African region.
Information about the offer was reported by Punch Nigeria, which highlighted the company’s ambition to pioneer a new category of listings on the Botswana Stock Exchange.
