Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Alamine Ousmane Mey, officially handed over 80 pieces of agro-food processing equipment to 28 agricultural actors on October 29, 2026. The ceremony marked a significant step in the government’s efforts to support local food production and value addition within the agricultural sector.
The materials, which are designed for agro-food transformation, have a total estimated value of 60 million CFA francs. By providing this specialized machinery, the Ministry of Economy aims to enhance the capacity of local producers to process raw agricultural products, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and increasing the market value of local produce.
The 28 beneficiaries of the program represent various stakeholders within the agricultural chain who are actively involved in the transformation of local crops. The distribution of the equipment is part of a broader strategy to modernize the sector and encourage the development of local agro-industries.
Minister Mey emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening the country’s food security and economic resilience. The provision of modern processing tools is intended to help these actors meet higher quality standards and expand their market reach, both domestically and potentially in regional markets.
This intervention aligns with national policies focused on diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on imports of processed food products. By empowering local agricultural actors with the necessary tools, the government seeks to foster a more robust and self-sufficient agro-food industry in Cameroon.
