Former Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke has said that the planned revival of the Tinapa resort has stalled because of unresolved problems at Calabar’s airport and seaport.
Imoke, speaking to the Punch, blamed the lack of progress on the state’s key transport infrastructure. “The revival of Tinapa has failed due to unresolved issues with Calabar’s airport and seaport,” he said.
Tinapa, a tourism and business park that was launched in the early 2000s, was intended to become a major economic hub for the region. Its success has long depended on reliable access for visitors and cargo.
Without a fully operational airport and a functional seaport, the state’s ability to attract investment and tourists to the site has been severely limited, according to Imoke.
The governor’s comments come as Cross River State continues to seek ways to boost its economy through tourism and industrial development, but infrastructure challenges remain a significant hurdle.
