National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 804,948 candidates achieving five credits and above, including in English Language and Mathematics. The announcement was made by NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi during a press conference held in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.
Prof. Wushishi stated that the results were released 63 days after the conclusion of the examination. He disclosed that 1,378,048 candidates had registered for the exercise, while 1,371,992 actually sat for the papers, which ran from June 15 to July 23, 2026.
According to the Registrar, a total of 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent of those who sat for the exam, obtained five credits and above, irrespective of their performance in English Language and Mathematics. The stricter requirement of passing both core subjects was met by the 804,948 candidates mentioned in the initial release.
Prof. Wushishi also highlighted a significant improvement in examination integrity, reporting a 64.74 per cent reduction in malpractice compared to the previous year. He noted that 1,406 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice in 2026, a sharp decline from the 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025.
In his address, the NECO Registrar expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for reappointing him for a second tenure and to Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa for his confidence in NECO’s leadership. He also commended security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), for their vigilance and support, which he said helped reinforce discipline and protect the integrity of the examination.
Prof. Wushishi concluded by reassuring stakeholders and the public that NECO remains committed to its mandate and will continue to uphold the integrity of its examinations.
