Nigerian comedian and actor Julius Agwu has disclosed that a brain surgery he underwent in 2015 resulted in a loss of sexual function. Agwu shared these details during a recent episode of the Beer Parlour Talk Show, which was uploaded on Saturday, offering a rare glimpse into the physical aftermath of his medical battle.
The surgery was performed in the United States after doctors reportedly discovered three tumours in Agwu’s brain, with one of the growths described as being approximately the size of a golf ball. During the interview, the host asked Agwu whether the condition or the procedure had impacted other aspects of his health, specifically his sexual function.
Agwu confirmed the complication, stating, “After I do am, prick no dey work again now. He no dey work.” Other participants on the programme, including Mr Patrick, joined the discussion to explain the medical context, noting the connection between the nerves involved in the surgery and the brain to clarify the effects Agwu described.
Beyond his health, Agwu reflected on his legacy in Nigeria’s comedy industry, asserting his role in popularising the fusion of music and comedy. “Music comedy na me form am o, that is to tell you how my brain dey work,” he said, highlighting how his unique style has influenced the sector.
The conversation took an emotional turn as Agwu broke down in tears while discussing his personal relationships and the support he received during his illness. He expressed deep hurt over the abandonment he felt from his social circle during his most vulnerable period.
“God wey I dey serve, anybody wey get hand for wetin happen to me. I go dey look. My friends deserted me. They stopped talking to me, many of them. It is well,” Agwu said, acknowledging the isolation he experienced while recovering from his condition.
