On Saturday, 20 children who had once been linked to Boko Haram were reintegrated into their communities in Borno State after completing a deradicalisation programme.
The beneficiaries – ten girls and ten boys classified as low‑risk minors – received livelihood support and training in business management, record‑keeping, savings and business improvement.
During the reintegration exercise in Maiduguri, Programme Manager Dadun Hamza of the Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development explained that the children were given business materials to help them start enterprises such as welding, shoemaking, tailoring, food vending, fabric and shoe sales, incense making and grinding services.
Hamza added that the foundation would monitor the children’s progress to ensure the sustainability of their new businesses.
In addition, 20 vulnerable women‑headed households in the communities where the children were returned received support to help promote acceptance of the returnees.
