The Bank of Industry (BoI) has reported a record year for lending and employment generation, having disbursed N644.9 billion to 12,501 businesses in 2025. According to the institution’s Managing Director, these financial interventions directly created or supported 1.68 million jobs across the Nigerian economy.
The figures represent the highest annual disbursement in the history of the development finance institution, which operates as a key pillar of the Nigerian government’s industrialization strategy. By channeling funds to over twelve thousand enterprises, the BoI aimed to stimulate production capacity and reduce reliance on imports in various sectors.
The Managing Director highlighted the significant multiplier effect of the loans, noting that the capital injected into these businesses translated into substantial workforce expansion. The creation of 1.68 million jobs underscores the BoI’s role in addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth through direct support to the private sector.
While the source material does not specify the particular industries that received the majority of the funds, the scale of the disbursement suggests broad participation across multiple value chains. The BoI typically targets sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and services to drive sustainable economic development.
This performance marks a significant milestone for the institution, demonstrating its capacity to mobilize and deploy large-scale financing to boost local production. The record-breaking figures are expected to serve as a benchmark for future fiscal years as the BoI continues its mandate to empower Nigerian businesses.
