Dapo Afolayan, the 29‑year‑old striker for Blackburn Rovers, has made clear that he would love to represent Nigeria on the international stage.

Born in London to Nigerian parents, Afolayan has already earned a single appearance for England in a non‑FIFA senior representative side. However, that cap does not preclude him from playing for the Super Eagles at senior level.

“I’d love to play for Nigeria. It’s always been something I wanted to do since I was a kid. I’ve been really close and timing has been unfortunate in a few cases,” Afolayan told the club’s official website.

The versatile forward joined Blackburn from FC St. Pauli in January 2026 and has been in fine form this season, scoring three goals and delivering two assists in eight league appearances.

Afolayan hopes to secure a call‑up to the Nigerian national team before the end of his career, adding that the opportunity would be a long‑held dream fulfilled.
