Michael Aondoakaa, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Benue State’s 2027 governorship, called on his supporters to stay calm after campaign items were reportedly destroyed in the state.
Aondoakaa said the incident, which he attributed to opposition forces, should not provoke retaliation. He urged party members and volunteers to avoid any form of violence and to continue campaigning peacefully.
The candidate stressed that the PDP’s campaign will proceed in a “non‑violent” manner and that the party remains focused on serving the people of Benue. He added that the destruction of campaign materials was a setback, but it would not derail the party’s plans.
In his statement, Aondoakaa appealed to voters to keep the electoral process orderly and to refrain from any disruptive actions that could harm the democratic process.
Benue State, located in Nigeria’s North‑Central region, is one of the country’s 36 states. The PDP is one of Nigeria’s two major political parties, and the 2027 governorship election is scheduled to take place later this year.
