The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly questioned the reported 15 percent performance of Bayelsa State’s 2026 budget, raising the issue shortly after the ₦1.24 trillion proposal for the 2027 fiscal year was presented to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in Yenagoa.
The party argues that the low execution rate of the 2026 budget signals “poor budget implementation” and a failure to convert public resources into tangible benefits for residents. PDP officials contend that the shortfall undermines the state’s ability to address pressing socioeconomic challenges.
“For many Bayelsans, the 2026 budget has yet to translate into improved living conditions, as a significant proportion of residents continue to grapple with multidimensional poverty, rising living costs, unemployment and limited access to essential services,” PDP publicity secretary Ikaebimo Mark said in a statement released in Yenagoa.
Mark also warned that the upcoming 2027 budget lacks clear, practical measures to combat poverty, hunger and joblessness. He emphasized that “Bayelsans need more than huge budget figures; they need reliable electricity, functional healthcare, affordable education, food security, job opportunities and an enabling environment for businesses and industries.”

The PDP urged the House of Assembly to subject the 2027 budget to “rigorous, independent and transparent scrutiny,” insisting that budgetary promises must be matched by clear implementation plans, accountability and measurable improvements in the everyday lives of ordinary Bayelsans.
