Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and the Central African Republic have stepped up their health cooperation in response to the rising threat of several epidemic diseases, officials said after a meeting in Douala on Thursday.

The four countries, which share borders in Central Africa, convened in the Cameroonian city to discuss strategies for tackling outbreaks of cholera, Ebola and Mpox, among other public‑health challenges.

Health ministers and senior officials from the participating states reviewed current surveillance data and agreed to strengthen cross‑border coordination, joint training programmes and shared laboratory capacity.

Douala, the commercial capital of Cameroon, served as the venue for the talks, underscoring the country’s role as a regional hub for health diplomacy.

While the meeting did not produce a detailed action plan, participants pledged to enhance information sharing and to mobilise resources to support early detection and rapid response to future outbreaks.
