The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has warned that the escalating cases of banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria’s North‑Central and North‑West regions could evolve into a broader national security crisis if decisive action is not taken.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP cited the continued captivity of residents in Dekara community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, as evidence of the growing threat.
“The protection of lives and property remains one of the government’s primary responsibilities,” Ishaq said. “The failure to safeguard citizens from attacks and abductions is worrying and unacceptable, and deserves widespread condemnation.”
The party warned that if the situation is left unaddressed, it could “escalate into catastrophic and disastrous breaches of national security.” It called on authorities to hold security personnel accountable for past failures and to review policies aimed at improving the welfare and safety of Nigerians.
In addition, the PRP condemned the deaths of 37 miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State. Ishaq demanded an independent investigation: “We demand the immediate establishment of an Independent Commission of Inquiry to determine the causes of this unfortunate incident and call for the prosecution of anyone found culpable.”
