More than 600 Qantas ground‑crew workers began a 24‑hour strike across Australia on Monday, demanding better terms in an escalating industrial dispute. The walk‑out, which started early in the morning, has affected the airline’s operations nationwide.
Qantas said it had contingency plans in place and that any disruptions would be felt mainly by its freight and regional QantasLink services. “We remain focused on reaching an agreement through the bargaining process and continue to engage constructively with the union,” the carrier added.
In a separate statement, Australian and Dutch officials highlighted the need for closer cooperation amid a volatile, contested, and less secure global environment. They reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing truth, justice and accountability for the victims of the MH17 downing and their next of kin.
