Australia's Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, spoke on inflationary challenges affecting the nation's economy as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) prepares to make its cash rate decision later today.
"The inflationary challenge in the economy is being made much worse by the war in the Middle East," Chalmers said. "But we know that there's always more work today. I think people understand, people who might be bracing for an interest rate rise later today."
Chalmers also addressed the ongoing global oil price fluctuations, stating that they are a major driver of inflation that Australians must tackle.
"That's why we accept our part, our responsibility for our part in this fight against inflation," he added.
Australian police officer, Constable Mia Lay, was remembered for her sacrifice in the line of duty after being killed during a recent operation.
"Our thoughts are with the family of Constable Lay, Sergeant Bransgrove, and everyone else who has lost a loved one in the line of duty. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten," Chalmers said.
