Fleetwood Town pulled off a stunning upset by eliminating Arsenal from the Carabao Cup after a tense penalty shootout in the fourth‑round clash.
The match finished level after regulation time, forcing the tie into a shootout. In the end, the League Two side prevailed, sending the Premier League giants out of the competition.
Fleetwood, who compete in England’s fourth tier, have long been regarded as underdogs in cup competitions. Their victory over Arsenal, a club that has won the Premier League and FA Cup on multiple occasions, was a reminder of the unpredictable nature of knockout football.
The result will see Fleetwood advance to the next round of the Carabao Cup, where they will face another opponent in a tournament that offers lower‑division clubs a chance to test themselves against top‑flight opposition.
Arsenal will now look to regroup and focus on their league commitments, while Fleetwood will celebrate a historic win that will be remembered by their supporters for years to come.
