On Wednesday, a police corporal was killed in an ambush by armed robbers in Hadejia town, Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Nigeria, after officers responded to a distress call from residents reporting criminal activity.
Jigawa State Police Command spokesman SP Lawan Shiisu Adam told Daily Post that the police unit was attacked while answering the call, and the corporal was shot and later died from his injuries.
The state’s Commissioner of Police expressed “profound sympathy” for the fallen officer, describing his death as a painful reminder of the dangers police face while protecting lives and property. He conveyed condolences on behalf of Inspector‑General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu and the entire Nigeria Police Force.
Following the incident, the Commissioner visited the scene in Hadejia, inspected the site, and received operational briefings. He ordered the Divisional Police Officer of Hadejia ‘A’ Division and the command’s investigation units to intensify efforts to identify, arrest and prosecute all perpetrators.
He also called for stronger intelligence gathering, greater community engagement and proactive patrols in Hadejia and other identified flashpoints across the command, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protect lives, prevent crime and ensure that criminals have no safe haven in the state.
