Federal Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo said on Sunday that the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) victories in four of the five legislative bye‑elections held on Saturday are “very significant” as Nigeria looks toward the 2027 general elections.
The APC secured seats in three geopolitical zones: the North‑West (Kano State), the North‑East (Bauchi and Gombe states) and the South‑South (Delta State). The party was defeated only in the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi, which was won by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission show the APC candidates’ vote totals: Hussaini Yusuf Datti won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano with 22,890 votes; Yakubu Ali captured the Disina State Constituency in Bauchi with 5,846 votes, edging the APM’s 5,225; Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a triumphed in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency with 41,121 votes; and Okolosi Ator took the Udu State Constituency in Delta with 8,724 votes. The APM’s victory in Sakwa was recorded at 8,515 votes.
“Let me keep our gunpowder dry for now. A fuller analysis of this significant factor in Presidential elections will follow on January 19th or 20th, 2027,” Keyamo wrote, adding, “No be cho cho cho!!”.
Keyamo highlighted the constitutional rule that a presidential candidate must obtain at least 25 percent of the vote in two‑thirds of Nigeria’s states and the Federal Capital Territory—a provision designed to reflect the country’s ethnic and regional diversity. The spread of APC wins across three regions, he said, underscores the party’s national reach ahead of the 2027 polls.
