Anthony Mackie disclosed that his longtime friend Chris Evans handed him an early copy of the “Avengers: Endgame” screenplay, allowing the “Falcon” star to read the moment his character Sam Wilson would inherit the Captain America shield.
“Chris Evans is somebody who I hold near and dear,” Mackie said, emphasizing the personal bond that extends beyond their shared on‑screen legacy as the iconic superhero.
“Endgame,” which concluded the Infinity Saga in 2019, features the pivotal scene in which Steve Rogers passes the mantle to Wilson, officially making him the new Captain America. Mackie said he learned how his character would become the hero while reading the script ahead of the film’s production.
The early script access is a rare glimpse into the creative process of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where actors typically receive their lines only after filming begins. Mackie’s experience underscores the trust and camaraderie between the two actors.
