Yusuf Abdullahi Itas, the Bauchi State House of Assembly member for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency, has formally withdrawn from the 2027 general election, the lawmaker announced in a letter dated 5 October 2026 addressed to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) state chairman.

In a document titled “Withdrawal of Candidature for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency Seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” Itas said his decision to step aside was “entirely voluntary and personal.” He confirmed that he had been seeking re‑election on the APM platform before deciding not to contest the seat.

The lawmaker thanked the APM leadership and its members for the opportunity to represent the party and expressed appreciation to the constituency’s residents for their encouragement and support during his tenure. Itas also noted his current responsibilities as Chairman of the House Committee on Petitions and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Itas’s withdrawal comes less than three weeks after Bauchi Assembly Chief Whip Musa Wakili Nakwada announced he would not run in the 2027 elections, marking a second high‑profile exit from the state’s legislative race.

Bauchi State, located in northeastern Nigeria, will hold its legislative elections alongside the national polls scheduled for 2027. The departures of two incumbent lawmakers may prompt the APM and other parties to select new candidates for the Itas/Gadau constituency and other seats in the assembly.
