Two automobile manufacturers in Anambra State, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) and Jojo Motors, have expressed their happiness over the Federal Government's policy on local vehicle production.
The policy, which requires that vehicles used by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) must be sourced from local manufacturers, is seen as a positive step towards boosting the Nigerian automobile industry.

Speaking during a visit to the manufacturers' facilities, NADDC Director-General, Chief Emma Enekwe, emphasized the need for greater support from the government to make locally produced vehicles more competitive.
The Anambra-based manufacturers are concerned about the influx of imported vehicles, which they said has made it difficult for local manufacturers to compete effectively.
Improved Patronage for Local Vehicle Manufacturers
Chief Emma Enekwe, the Director-General of the National Automobile Design and Development Council (NADDC), said that the patronage of locally produced vehicles would depend on the durability and affordability of the vehicles.
The NADDC Director-General also called for the establishment of a local vehicle assembly plant in Anambra State, to boost the state's economy and create more jobs.

Speaking during the visit, NADDC Board Chairman, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, urged the Federal Government to support the automobile industry by promoting backward integration, which would enable local manufacturers to produce spare parts locally.
Chukwuma called for a review of the current import policies to ensure that the government does not import parts that can be produced locally. He said that the automotive industry in Nigeria is crucial to the country's economy.
