Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has charged chief executive officers of federal parastatals to take the achievements and reforms of the President Bola Tinubu administration to the grassroots to counter what he described as widespread disinformation about government policies.
Akume gave the charge on Friday in Abuja when he received a delegation of the Forum of CEOs of Federal Parastatals, led by its Convener/Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Dr Kazeem Kolawole Raji.
The SGF, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Bekearedebo Augusta Warrens, said the CEOs occupied strategic positions through which they could communicate government policies and programmes directly to Nigerians across the country.
He urged them to use their various institutional platforms and grassroots networks to explain the rationale and impact of the administration’s reforms.
“In your various domains where your power is operative, ensure that people become aware of these achievements. Push this message down to the grassroots, because one thing I’ve observed in the policy right now is a lot of disinformation.
“This reform policy is not meant to imprison or impoverish Nigerians, and that is the narrative that has been spread down to the grassroots. Push this message to help promote the image of this administration,” Akume said.
The SGF also commended the forum for organising itself into a cohesive body and promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda within their respective agencies.
He said the structures and networks available to the federal parastatals could support the forum’s proposed mobilisation of 10 million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Akume assured the forum of the continued support of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), while urging its leadership to establish a structured framework for sustained collaboration with the office.
He stressed the need for purposeful communication between the forum and the OSGF to enable proper tracking of its objectives and strategic initiatives.
Earlier, Raji conferred the position of Grand Patron of the Forum of CEOs of Federal Parastatals on Akume, citing his leadership and role in coordinating the machinery of government under the Tinubu administration.
Raji said the forum was targeting the mobilisation of 10 million votes for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 through what he described as lawful, ethical, peaceful and issue-based grassroots engagement.
According to him, the forum intends to leverage the professional and community networks embedded in federal agencies across the country to strengthen communication between government and citizens.
He said bridging the communication gap between government policies and Nigerians was one of the forum’s key objectives, stressing that the administration’s achievements, reforms and measurable outcomes must be properly documented and communicated “with absolute fidelity to facts.”
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr Chidiebere John Ezeamama, called for the creation of a work-related communication network between the forum and the OSGF.
He said such a mechanism would ensure that the achievements and developmental activities of federal parastatals were communicated to the SGF’s office in real time for documentation.
Ezeamama also proposed a centralised digital platform to facilitate real-time information sharing, coordinate inter-agency participation and track developmental milestones of the various agencies.
