Cameroon has set a target of securing 16.5 billion FCFA in private finance for sustainable agriculture by 2030. The goal, announced by the government, aims to channel private investment into projects that are resilient to climate change, reduce risks across value chains and avoid deforestation.

Under the plan, the funds will be used to finance agricultural investments that can withstand the impacts of a changing climate. This includes the adoption of climate‑smart technologies, improved irrigation systems and the development of resilient crop varieties.

In addition to climate resilience, the initiative seeks to reduce risks in the agricultural value chain. By strengthening supply‑chain infrastructure and market access, the country hopes to protect farmers and traders from price volatility and supply disruptions.

The strategy also emphasises the importance of maintaining forest cover. Projects financed under the scheme must avoid deforestation, aligning with national commitments to environmental conservation and the broader African agenda for sustainable development.

While the exact allocation of the 16.5 billion FCFA remains to be detailed, the move signals Cameroon’s commitment to harnessing private capital for a more sustainable and secure agricultural sector.
