George Ilenikhena, the 20‑year‑old forward, marked his debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles by scoring the team’s opening goal in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar.
The first matchday of the 2027 qualifiers saw the West Africans take on the Barea of Madagascar. Ilenikhena found the net late in the first half, giving Nigeria an early lead.
However, the visitors turned the game around when substitute Moses Usor netted the winning goal 25 minutes from time, securing a victory for Madagascar.
“Proud to have made my debut with the national team. We keep working,” Ilenikhena wrote on his Instagram page.
Ilenikhena said he will continue to work hard for the national side as he looks to build on his promising start.
