Nigeria secured a 2‑1 victory over Madagascar in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifier on Friday, with the match played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles’ win was powered by goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor, who each found the net to give Nigeria the lead after a goal‑down start.
Coach Eric Chelle praised the team’s spirit in a post‑match interview, saying:
“I was very happy that Victor [Osimhen] was here. It shows that this group is trying to move forward and build something new. I am very proud of the team’s spirit.”
Osimhen, who was sidelined by a groin injury and did not feature in the match, was present at the stadium to support his teammates.
He had been replaced in the squad by Taiwo Awoniyi following the injury he sustained while playing for his club earlier this month.
