The OK Movement has declared that its 59-member Presidential Campaign Council remains fully intact and operational, directly challenging the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) which has rejected the body. The political support group issued a statement on Friday asserting that the council does not require approval from NDC leadership or any other party officials to function.
The dispute centers on a previous move by NDC National Chairman Cleopas Moses, who disowned the Presidential Campaign Council and instructed the public and media to ignore it. In response, John Ughulu, the National Director-General of the OK Movement, stated that the council will not be dissolved and that the group operates independently of the party’s national hierarchy.
“The OK Movement wishes to reaffirm, unequivocally, that its position remains unchanged. The Presidential Campaign Council structure already constituted and announced by the OK Movement remains valid and operational, irrespective of the position or opinion of any individual leader of the party or presidential candidate,” Ughulu said.
Ughulu emphasized that the OK Movement possesses its own distinct leaders, principles, and internal structure. He argued that the group does not need the endorsement of NDC national leader Seriake Dickson or any other party official to determine how the movement is run, asserting that the OK Movement is "on its own."
The OK Movement is a political support group established for Peter Obi, the NDC’s presidential candidate, and his running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, for the 2027 elections. The statement marks a significant escalation in tensions between the candidate’s support base and the party’s national leadership regarding the management of the campaign structure.
