Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Engr. Seyi Makinde has called on voters in Osun State to support the party’s candidates for the 2027 general elections, framing the contest as a necessary "national reset" for Nigeria. Speaking at a campaign rally in Osogbo, Makinde specifically rallied support for Dr. Ibrahim Adekunle, the APM candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District.
Makinde, who addressed the crowd through Tunde Tijani, a member of the party’s Elders Forum, urged the electorate to back all APM National Assembly candidates. He drew parallels between the current campaign and his own political journey seven years ago, noting that critics had previously doubted his ability to win the governorship due to his lack of prior political office experience. "I urge the people of Osun to support Adekunle and all APM candidates as part of our collective effort to liberate ourselves from unemployment and hunger," Makinde stated.
Dr. Ibrahim Adekunle, addressing supporters at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, positioned his candidacy as a vehicle for generational change. He called on young Nigerians to view his bid as an opportunity to phase out older politicians from public office. "It is time to relegate older politicians from public office, and I charge the youth to start that shift with me," Adekunle said, adding that he understood the challenges faced by the younger demographic and was prepared to offer strong representation in the Senate if elected.
The APM candidate also urged citizens to shun political bitterness and violence, advocating for a peaceful electoral process. He emphasized that young people can no longer be useful only for election campaigns and must move from being spectators to decision-makers. "We must stop begging political officeholders for what is rightfully ours," he said, arguing that representation must be tangible, create opportunities, and attract development rather than merely occupying a seat in Abuja.
Hon. Adewale Adebayo, the State Chairman of the APM, corroborated Adekunle’s statements by highlighting his record in education, healthcare, skill acquisition, and youth development. Adebayo noted that Adekunle’s service-driven approach speaks for itself and that Osun Central deserves a representative who gives the people a stronger voice.
During the rally, the APM formally received several defectors from other political parties. The party pledged to accord these new members equal rights and opportunities within its structure as it continues to build support ahead of the 2027 polls.
