Abia State Governor Alex Otti has clarified his political stance for the 2027 general elections, stating that he is supporting the Labour Party’s presidential candidate rather than President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV that aired on Friday, Governor Otti addressed questions regarding his allegiance ahead of the upcoming polls. He emphasized his commitment to his own party’s nominee, asserting, “I have a presidential candidate and it is expected that I support my candidate.”
While affirming his support for the Labour Party, Otti acknowledged President Tinubu’s constitutional right to seek another term. The governor noted that there is no reason for him to oppose the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader’s re-election bid.
“He (Tinubu) has the right to run and nobody can stop him. But I’m in the Labour Party and for now, he has my support,” Otti said.
According to reports from the Daily Post, Dr. Sunday Chibuzo Okereke is the Labour Party’s designated presidential candidate for the 2027 election. Otti’s comments serve to distinguish his political support from the current administration, aligning himself with the opposition party’s ticket.
