Yesterday the feud between Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike deepened, as senior APC leaders in the South‑East rallied behind the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and rejected Wike’s “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a joint statement issued by APC National Vice‑Chairman (South‑East) Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu and the state chairmen of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, the South‑East bloc demanded full party support for all APC candidates in 2027 and described Wike’s recent attacks on PGF members as “most unfortunate, reprehensible and completely unacceptable.” The statement praised the governors as “performing leaders” who delivered development and secured more than 25 % of the presidential vote in 2023, and warned that no minister has authority over elected governors.
Wike, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member serving in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, countered that his Rainbow Coalition is 100 % aligned with Tinubu’s re‑election bid.
