The African Democratic Congress (ADC) said on Thursday that it will add more members to its Presidential Campaign Council as it prepares for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. The announcement, made in Abuja, came in a statement from the party’s Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, who said the council’s composition is still evolving.
The council, unveiled on Thursday, currently comprises 69 members and is headed by Senator Austin Akobundu of Abia Central, who has been appointed Director General. Shaibu described the released list as “an important stage in the organisation of the campaign, but is not the final composition of the council.”
In the same statement, the council asked party members whose names were not yet on the list to be patient, emphasizing that “no one should believe that years of commitment and sacrifice have been forgotten.” The appeal was framed as a reminder that “our strength has always been our people and the relationships built over many years.”
Shaibu outlined the next steps, noting that the ADC will soon announce its zonal and state structures, additional senior appointments, and further organisational layers extending to wards and polling units. The party also said it is strengthening its policy architecture to address “the cost of living, food security and agriculture, security, energy and power, jobs and industrialisation, manufacturing and SMEs, education, healthcare, infrastructure, housing, public finance, governance, technology and innovation, social protection, natural resources, the environment and human capital development.”
The council reiterated its commitment to a “people‑driven national campaign” that draws on loyal members, experienced leaders, professionals, young people and ordinary Nigerians. It also highlighted the continued support of “His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar,” acknowledging his “sacrifices” and the party’s “loyalty, sacrifice and friendship.”
