Colombia’s U‑20 women’s team secured a 1‑0 victory over Poland in the round‑of‑16 of the 2026 U‑20 World Cup, setting the stage for a quarter‑final clash with Nigeria.

The match, played on Thursday, was a tight affair that could have gone into extra time. A late own goal decided the game when Mariana Silva’s cross was diverted into the Polish net by Martyna Bartczark.

After the win, captain Juana Ortegon praised her teammates’ fighting spirit.

“We will play match by match. We are very happy to be in the quarter‑finals, so we will think about Nigeria first, but this team will always compete to win,” she told FIFA.

Ortegon added that the squad’s ambition is to lift the world title, but they will focus on each game as it comes.

“Our dream is to win the world title, but we’re going match by match,” she said.

Poland will face Nigeria for a place in the semi‑finals on Sunday, while Colombia prepares to take on the Falconets in the next round.
